"Makes Living, Worth Living"
Q1. ARE YOUR TILES IN STOCK? CAN I TAKE THEM AWAY WITH ME TODAY?
99% of everything you see is in stock. Some specials are to order.
Q2. IS IT TRUE THAT BIG TILES MAKE SMALL ROOMS LOOKS BIGGER?
Yes! As a rule, the bigger the better. Small tiles make a room look smaller because you see lots of grout lines. Fewer grout lines also mean less chance of water penetration in wet areas.
Q3. WHICH FLOOR TILES ARE SLIP RESISTANT?
There is no such thing as a ‘non-slip’ floor tile. For areas where slip resistance is desirable, choose a tile with a rough surface or anti slip characteristic.
Q4. DO I HAVE TO TAKE THE OLD TILES OFF BEFORE FIXING NEW ONES?
Not usually. Provided the old tiles are secure, simply clean, score and bond the surface, then tile in the usual way. See our Guides for more detail.
Q5. I NEED TILES FOR HEAVY DUTY FLOOR. ANY ADVICE ON THE ‘WEAR FACTOR’ OF TILES?
There are 2 issues with floor tiles – the hardness of the surface glaze and the impact resistance of the base clay. For heavy commercial use, choose unglazed Porcelain or Double Charge.
Q6. CAN I USE TILES OUTSIDE?
The resistance of ceramic tiles to frost damage depends on the water absorbency of the clay used in the biscuit or body.
Most ‘red clay’ tiles are frost resistant to about –5c
Most ‘white clay’ tiles are frost resistant to about –10c
Vitrified Tiles & Porcelain Tiles does not absorb water and is usually totally frost proof.
Q7. CAN I USE THE SAME TILES ON BOTH WALL AND THE FLOOR?
99% of all floor tiles are suitable for walls, but wall tiles are generally not suitable for floors.
Q8. HOW DO I CLEAN MY TILES?
The majority of tiles can be cleaned with warm soapy water, or normal household cleaners.
Q9. HOW MUCH SHOULD I ALLOW FOR CUTTING AND WASTEGE?
Around 10%, Depending on the site conditions.
Q10. CAN I DRILL THROUGH TILES?
Yes - you should use a standard masonry bit unless drilling through vitrified, porcelain or marble, which requires a diamond bit.
